About Deirdre
Originally from Cork City, Deirdre studied Law at UCC and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelors Degree. Having served her three-year apprenticeship with a firm of solicitors in Cork, she was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 1993. For two years post qualification, she worked in a small Cork firm, during which time she dealt with the Conveyancing and Probate files in the office. In 1995, Deirdre returned to UCC in order to commence her Masters Degree, which she undertook by original thesis on the subject of the Free Movement of Goods within the European Union. An LLM was conferred on her in December 1997.
Deirdre commenced a long-running association with the Law Society of Ireland in June 1996, when she moved to Dublin to take up a position as course co-ordinator in the Law School with responsibility for the Conveyancing and European Law courses.
In 1997, Deirdre was recruited by the Legal Office of Bord Telecom Eireann (now Eir), to head up the company’s conveyancing department. She was promoted to Deputy Company Solicitor of eircom in September 2000 and was subsequently appointed Assistant Company Secretary. During her nine years with eircom, Deirdre provided the legal support for every major property transaction undertaken by the company, as well as being closely involved with many of the company’s significant commercial transactions.
Having moved to Aughrim in 2001, Deirdre decided to open her own practice in the village and established Deirdre Fox & Associates in September, 2006.
A member of the Conveyancing Committee of the Law Society since 1996, Deirdre served as Vice Chair of the Committee between 2008 and 2011 and as Chair between 2011 and 2013. This committee provides guidance to practitioners on matters of correct conveyancing practice. In addition, Deirdre has been appointed by the Council of the Law Society to act upon two separate Task Forces and is also a member of the steering committee responsible for the Society’s continuing education programme. Deirdre is a co-author of the manual, now in its ninth edition, used by students on the conveyancing module in the Society’s Law School, published by Oxford University Press. In August 2011, she was appointed by Minister for Justice, as the Law Society’s representative on the Property Registration Authority.
Deirdre is also a horse lover and has competed at amateur level with Eventing Ireland. She has a great love of languages and speaks Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Italian.
